I’m a learn-by-doing type of person, but I’ve also been reading a lot of articles about prompt engineering to see how I can continue improving my content strategy and writing workflows with AI assistance.
Many of the resources I find are helpful, but when it comes to writing SEO content, a lot of them miss the (very important) step of explaining what you should do after you brainstorm ideas. 🔍 Keyword research and analysis.
For example, if I ask ChatGPT to help me brainstorm blog topics and related keywords with a prompt like this:
Act as a content strategist and expert content writer to help me do reserach about running a startup or small business.
Give me a list of 20 pain points (in question format) that solopreneurs and small business owners face when it comes to marketing their businesses and attracting clients.
Generate the results in a table and include keywords and blog article topics to help solopreneurs and small business owners overcome these challenges/pain points.
It generates a detailed list that sparks loads of ideas.
But before I write about the AI-generated list of topics, I need to analyze the suggested keywords using a tool like Ubersuggest or Semrush to look up search volume, SEO difficulty, and search intent. ChatGPT can’t access search volume and other metrics the way these KW tools can.
If you skip over this step, you could spend hours writing a blog article to target a KW that no one is even searching for or if the intent is wrong, you could waste time attracting the wrong type of audience.
Use a prompt like this to format the keywords so you can quickly copy and paste them into a KW analysis tool:
Now put the keywords from the table in a list format that's easy to copy and paste into a keyword analysis tool.
Voila!
Now I have a list of 40 KWs related to the pain points my target audience faces and I can sort them by metrics like search volume and SEO difficulty and easily pull up a list of SERPs (search engine results pages) that I need to beat.
💡Do you want me to write another post about how I’d analyze and choose the right KWs for the topics ChatGPT suggested? Let me know in the comments below!
Such a good article thanks Alexis - super useful!
